Ensuring Precision and Safety on the High Seas

Incident Overview: The vessel CMA CGM Platon collided with a quay on the south bank of the River Thames, resulting in significant damage to its bow and punctures in the forepeak tank.

Outcome: Thankfully, no pollution occurred, and no injuries were reported.

Investigation Findings: The delay in applying port helm caused the vessel to swing to starboard upon entering the tidal stream.

SMIDS Solution: With the SMIDS System, the pilot and captain would have had access to precise vessel handling data, enabling better and quicker maneuvering decisions.

Conclusion: Implementing the SMIDS System could have prevented this incident, highlighting its vital role in enhancing maritime safety.
